In 1971 Brettargh Holt was bought by the Salesian Sisters and in the early 1980's it became a Youth Pastoral Retreat centre, with particular emphasis on the young. Over the years the sisters have adapted their programmes and style of working to the needs of those who visit the centre. The project has been able to develop effectively with the help of the wider Salesian family and the community surrounding. In 2002 the Time Out Project became a registered charity.

The Time Out Project is the result of looking at the challenges in society, its values and how they affect us; from this the project can adapt and respond in the most effective way.
Everyone needs time out to escape from the pressures of life and the ‘Time Out Project’ gives people young and not-so-young the space to reflect in a relaxed atmosphere in beautiful surroundings, where each individual person is welcomed and appreciated for who and what they are.
